Stout is Porter’s bolder brother. Stout is dark brown or black in colour and generally tastes slightly sweeter than Porter. American Stouts are less bitter and have a less burned flavour than the well-known British and Irish stout beers. The bitterness is partially neutralised by adding coffee or chocolate. American Stout is sometimes aged in wooden barrels. Its flavour ranges from creamy and sweet to spicy and fresh.
American Stout beers have an ABV of 7% at most. Any beer with a higher ABV is called Imperial Stout.
